Mexico appeals tuna dispute panel report
On 25 January 2012, Mexico notified the Dispute Settlement Body of its decision to cross-appeal the panel report in DS381, “United States — Measures Concerning the Importation, Marketing And Sale of Tuna And Tuna Products”. The United States had earlier appealed the report on 20 January 2012.

Czech Republic offers CZK 500,000 to WTO training programme for developing countries
The Czech Republic has donated CZK 500,000 (about CHF 23,750) to the WTO Global Trust Fund.

World commercial services trade rises 12% according to new WTO figures
According to the latest WTO data, world exports in commercial services increased by 12% in the third quarter of 2011 compared to the same quarter of 2010 (balance-of-payments basis, current price, not seasonally adjusted). Overall, in the first nine months of 2011, exports of commercial services grew by 13% year-on-year.

Work launched on Ministerial decision to improve accession guidelines for the poorest countries
The Sub-Committee on Least Developed Countries, on 20 January, agreed to start work on developing recommendations to “further strengthen, streamline and operationalize” current guidelines on the accession process of LDCs, as called for in a decision by the Eighth WTO Ministerial Conference last month.

Panels set up on X-ray scanners, chicken broiler products and renewable energy equipment
On 20 January 2012, the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) established three panels: one to review anti-dumping duties imposed by China on EU X-ray scanners, one on China’s anti-dumping and countervailing measures on US chicken broiler products and one to review measures applied by Canada in its renewable energy sector. It also adopted the panel and Appellate Body reports which reviewed the Philippines’ tax regime on distilled spirits.

WTO meeting on Certain Measures Affecting the Renewable Energy Generation Sector dispute cancelled
Further to the establishment and composition of a panel in Canada – Measures Relating to the Feed-in Tariff Program (DS426), the Panel has decided to cancel the open meeting scheduled to take place on 2-3 February 2012, and amend the timetable in Canada — Certain Measures Affecting the Renewable Energy Generation Sector (DS412), with a view to harmonization with the timetable in DS426.
